Scar Tissue Management (Assessment)

Therapy for troublesome scars

  • 1 hour
  • 60 British pounds
  • Winchester Way

Service Description

Scars form when the soft tissue has been subjected to trauma. This could be an accident where an injury to the soft tissue occurred or due to surgery. Sometimes, the way that a scar forms and the way that the soft tissue heals can result in unpleasant symptoms. You may experience heightened sensitivity (or lack of sensitivity/numbness), reduced mobility in the soft tissue, causing restriction in normal movement and the scar may have become adhered to the underlying tissue. There is also a psychological impact and it may be that the way you relate to that part of your body has changed. Scar tissue management looks at you as a whole person. In the assessment we discuss how long you've had your scar(s), what symptoms you've been having and what you'd like the outcome of your sessions to be. We then work together to put in place a plan to rehabilitate your scar to improve, sensation, range of movement, your relationship with your scar or all of the above. Important: As a therapist I will not use harsh techniques to try to break up the scar tissue. The aim of this therapy isn't to eliminate scarring (as this isn't possible), but to improve functionality and overall wellbeing.
